About Our School

What Makes Us Special
Miller Elementary is committed to maintaining a positive learning community where students develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for contributing to a multi-cultural society.

Teachers use arts and technology as tools to help connect with children. The Opening Minds through the Arts (OMA) program incorporates language arts, math, social studies and science into visual and performing arts programs. Every class has access to an interactive electronic response system that teachers can use to gather student opinions and generate discussion topics.

Miller also values parent and community involvement. The school has community representatives who encourage parents to be involved in the school, and families are invited to monthly meetings on topics that relate to their children’s education.

Technology
Miller Elementary School is a leader in its use of technology products. Interactive white boards, known as Promethean Boards, are used for teaching and engaging students.  Students are growing up in a digital world so they are very comfortable using the technology that Miller Elementary has to offer. The computer center located in the library is equipped with 34 student computers. Teachers use Computers On Wheels (C.O.W.s) in the classroom to work on laptops and complete special projects or work on instructional programs. In addition, the library is equipped with TWO Promethean Boards that can accommodate small groups or a whole class. We are truly a Learning Resource Center.

Opening Minds through the Arts

We use instrumental music, opera, dance, theater and visual arts to help teach reading, writing, math and science to children in kindergarten through 3rd grade.  We have a team of artists who work alongside classroom teachers, adapting each lesson to support teaching of core content and knowledge.

In Tucson Unified, the OMA program employs 26 artists from the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Arizona Opera Company, University of Arizona Schools of Music and Dance and other arts organizations to teach 30-minute, twice-weekly classes for 36 weeks of the school year that support core curriculum goals.
Opening Minds through the Arts program (OMA) is a leader in a Tucson-led national movement to integrate arts education with core curriculum.
